It is also called the bag of waters or the membranes,
It is the sac in which the fetus develops
It is a thin but tough transparent pair of membranes that can hold a developing embryo till labor starts
The amniotic sac has two parts
1. Amnion- The amnion is the inner layer of the amniotic sac
2. Chorion- The outer layer of the bag of waters is called the chorion
The amniotic sac protects the baby from infection and also contains amniotic fluid which surrounds the baby.
Your water should not break before your due date. Do report if your waters have broken and labor has not started.
It should be intact throughout pregnancy until labor sets in or it is broken by your doctor or midwife
It breaking means the water that surrounds the baby can be reduced causing further complications
