RHESUS INCOMPATIBILITY

RHESUS INCOMPATIBILITY

After your first pregnancy or miscarriage you need to check your rhesus factor. If you are negative and baby is positive you need anti D or Rhogam . This prevents your subsequent pregnancies from complications and possible miscarriages due to incompatibility. Always make sure you check at the hospital if its your first pregnancy or first abortion. Its also needed after a miscarriage if you are rhesus negative.

Let me add that if both father and mother are rhesus negative there is no need for the anti D. Its important for both partners to know their rhesus factor

BACKACHE DURING PREGNANCY

BACKACHE DURING PREGNANCY

During pregnancy one of the complains women often give is back pain.

One of the reasons for pack ache is the the bones of the pelvis trying to expand to accommodate the growing baby

The pregnancy hormones also allows the joints to be more flexible to aid the expansion

To reduce the back ache

Assume the right posture during all activities

Don’t be in one position for a long time. Walk , sit , sleep etc

Make sure your sleep on a firm bed

Make Exercise part of your daily routine

Massage therapy also helps

If back ache is severe report to the hospital immediately

dilated

WHY DOES YOUR MIDWIFE TELL YOU TO HOLD ON WITH PUSHING EVEN WITH STRONG AND PAINFUL CONTRACTIONS

This is because the cervix which is the opening of the uterus has to open from 0 to 10 cm. At 10 cm the midwife must confirm the cervix is fully dilated. If it is not fully dilated pushing through it will cause cervical tear which may lead to bleeding and other complications.

Let your doctor or midwife confirm dilation first before you start bearing down or pushing

In few cases the mum does not have control baby comes out rapidly.

In all work with your doctor or midwife for the best results

Bladder

A FULL BLADDER DURING LABOR

bladder
bladder

Do you realize that once you are in the active phase of labor, your doctor or midwife will continue to encourage you to empty your bladder.

A cather will be used to drain the urine if bladder is full but the woman is unable to pass the urine

This is because, full bladder may prevent the head of the baby from descending into the pelvis. Contractions may not be so efficient.

After the birth of your baby a full bladder may also prevent the uterus from contracting well and can lead to bleeding.
