MY BIRTH STORY – WHEN A PLANNED C/S BECOMES A VAGINAL BIRTH

Preamble
I opted for an elective CS. I scheduled with my doctor when I was 34 weeks. The reason was that I lost my second baby three days after delivery.
Why? I had a breech birth, and according to the midwives, I didn’t push, and as a result my son suffered from oxygen deficiency. But I knew I did my best and it wasn’t my first birth too.
Because of this, I didn’t want to go through that thing called labor pain not to talk of hearing the word push to be reminded of that painful experience.

So on Friday, I was not feeling too well so I went to see the doctor. He run some tests on me but said everything was normal so he gave me some pain reliever. He scheduled the CS for the following week Wednesday , but will have to report on Tuesday for monitoring.

Yesterday, I was feeling very normal and healthy and even prepared some delicious jollof rice. I Went to bed but around 3am today Sunday, I felt the urge to go to the washroom. Then I started feeling this mild contractions but I thought it was this Braxton Hicks, so I didn’t bother and went back to bed. But the pain was becoming a bit regular, I went to the washroom and I saw the show.

But I said no, I refuse to go into labor again😭😭😭. I quickly went to heat water and went to take my bath.
The contractions became regular and a bit severe. Eeeeei, this short time(within some 15 minutes bio) I quickly called my brother to go for car keys. I called the doctor and I headed to the hospital.
I got to the hospital around 4:30am. I was quickly taken in to be prepared for my CS but not knowing, doctor hasn’t arrived yet, so I had to wait.

Within a short time, the contractions were coming at a very short intervals, that I felt the urge to visit the loo.
The midwife said because I’ve opted for CS , she will not do any VE, but she later encouraged me to have VB, that I could do it, she’ll help me.

All this while, doctor has not arrived, she called other two midwives. When I felt the third urge to visit the loo, she said I shouldn’t go again that she’ll have to do the VE 😭😭😭. Not knowing, by baby’s head was coming😳😳😳, eeeeee! This thing I said I’ll not do again. Hmmmm.
By the time the doctor arrived, I was already pushing baby out. With just two pushes my Miracle arrived at 6:15am weighing 3.3kg, with some minor tear. Just two hours of labor pain.
We truly serve a living God. Man proposes but God opposes. Original Class P, Maame Cee for your daily confessions. I always confess with faith. Thank you MS and Auntie Nira for your support and education. Let me also thank and commend the midwives at COSMAS DAMIEN HOSPITAL at Koforidua.

Thank you to all of you on this noble platform. Even though I’m not a regular contributor.
I wish all the rest of pregnant moms the safest delivery ever.
Sorry for the long post.
Forgive me.

MY BIRTH STORY – THE DECISION I TOOK SAVED THE LIFE OF MY BABY.

Newborn with cord

EDD 16th and 9th of July.

God’s own Time 26/06/2024

God was faithful throughout my pregnancy journey, I was well throughout without complications

At week 32 my baby was lying on the transverse, so I was asked by my midwife to see the doctor, which I did.

The Doctor examined me and kept me on weekly check up which I obeyed, so at week 37 he asked me to repeat a scan, if the baby hasn’t turned he will turn it himself, but I quickly requested for CS instead because my first pregnancy I lost the baby at birth so I didn’t want to take chances.

But I repeated the scan and it showed the baby was now at cephalic presentation.

But I still insisted on the CS because of my past experience and also within me I wasn’t just comfortable with Vaginal birth.

The Doctor asked me to go home and return on Wednesday for the CS.

On Wednesday I was taken to the theater and in the process of the operation they realized that the baby was coming out with BUTTOCKS and with a CORD around the NECK.

The decision I took became a divine timing for my baby to be saved. They were able to bring the baby out alive and we are both doing well. The doctors were so happy for me for insisting on CS.

Midwife Sally God bless you so much, because of your teaching on CS I wasn’t afraid to make that decision on CS, which ended up saving my baby’s life.

I pray God sees all pregnant women through.

CROWNING – AN IMPORTANT PHASE DURING THE SECOND STAGE OF LABOR

CROWNING – AN IMPORTANT PHASE DURING THE SECOND STAGE OF LABOR

This is when you can see the top of your baby’s head through the opening of your vagina.

This occurs during the second stage of labor when cervix is fully dilated.

The continues contractions and maternal efforts will aid the birth of the new born

It’s an exciting time for the midwife and the client

Some midwives will even announce this to the mum to give her more hope that baby is just about to be born

She may even be allowed to touch the babies head to confirm it

At this time you need to cooperate with your doctor or midwife for the best outcome

Depending on the situation they may decide whether the mum need an episiotomy or not

The midwife will also make her observation and examination, just to make sure there is no cord that is preceding the head as the pressure on the cord at this time can cut off blood supply to the baby leading to fetal distress.

At any point during the birth process communicate all your feelings to your doctor or midwife.

REDUCING TEARS DURING DELIVERY

That moment every mum expects

When babys head becomes visible and doesn’t go back any longer

You know you are almost through

Your midwife will encourage you to bear down with your last energy

Tears can be prevented if you had already prepared your perineum with a

During the birth cooperate with your midwife

Assume a position that will open your pelvis widely and reduce tears and complications

Also speak to your midwife about how you can prevent perineal tears

CONTRACTIONS DURING LABOR

Once your pregnancy gets to term. One of the expectations is for labor to set in. One of the indications that labor has started is for you to have contractions that are regular and strong

Contractions can be described as the tightening and relaxation of the uterine muscles. It may come with pain.

The contractions during labor have to be strong enough or adequate to cause cervical dilation.

Contractions will last between 30 to 60 seconds and also occur in short intervals. Every 5 to 10 minutes. This should cause cervical dilation.

In any case when mum has adequate contractions but cervix is not dilating it is a major concern. Your midwife will monitor with a pantograph and when things are not as expected. Other interventions will be recommended to prevent prolonged labor.

Staying active, example walking around, assuming an upright position, getting a good environment, good support system, adequate hydration can help enhance the contractions

Always remember to cooperate with your doctor or midwife during labor.

Also remember to talk about pain management options before your labor sets in

MY BIRTH STORY – PLANNED C/S FOR BREECH PRESENTATION WAS BORN VAGINALLY

My Birth Story.
EDD-9th JULY, 2022
God’s Chosen Date- 20th June, 2022.

Forgive me for the long post!

To God be all the Glory! Good day wonderful midwives and mummies here.
My all pinky rainbow arrived on Monday, 20th June, 2022.
Pregnancy wasn’t all smooth, first trimester wahala and also had preterm contractions at 29 weeks but God sustained us.
As at 36 weeks baby was still in Frank Breech, so in my 37th week, that was 19th June, I went for anternatal and was booked for CS on Friday, 24th June.
I had no contractions whatsoever on Sunday! Fast forward Monday as at 3:25am I woke up with my waters broken still with no pains.
I got ready for the hospital with my granny but there was not a single taxi nor had any bolt to order!
I had to drive myself to the hsp. I mastered courage and drove as the hsp was just about 3 mins away from home.
We got to the hsp at 4:10 am and my vitals were taken then I started feeling mild pains like period cramps.
That was when I wanted to poo, midwife refused and asked I be checked first. I was 7cm gone with just normal pains but a breech baby coming with legs and hands in between eii madam.
Doc was called and I got prepared for theatre.
This is what God can do, Anesthesiologist and theater nurse got there, surgeon wasn’t there yet that was when the show started, contraction started and now strong woman ay3 loose eei!
I kept breathing kakra but the hustle was real, few mins later doctor came and checked me I was fully dilated but still breech!
Glory to God, Doctor helped manoeuver the baby and with just 2 pushes madam landed!
I gave birth at exactly 5:10 am
Both baby and I were fine and discharged same day of delivery.

I pray all expectant mums goes through delivery smoothly and healthily.
Love from my princess and I to you all

MY BIRTH STORY – “THIS IS MY TESTIMONY”

EDD: 13th February 2022
DOD: 16th February 2022

My EDD had passed with no signs of labor so my doctor suggested an induction on my last visit that was 11th February.
I was to be induced on the dawn of 16th Feb but I went to the hospital on 15th to relax and wait for the procedure. I arrived at about 6pm settled in my room and about 9pm I started having stomach upset(diarrhoea)so I visited the washroom a couple of times and all of a sudden I could feel slight pains in my abdomen ,pains were on and off. I went to the washroom again and I saw the show. at this point I knew labor has set in I called my midwife around 11 pm she did a VE and confirmed I was 3cm gone so she said as a first timer I’ll give birth the next day and she left.
Contractions were getting worse I was enduring and practicing the breathing exercise until I started feeling the urge to push I called her again she checked me and quickly rushed me to the delivery room .
To GOD be the glory after my third push at 4:31 am my baby was out.
This is a testimony for me ,I prayed through out this pregnancy and God answered with everything I asked for.
Less than 8 hours labor, a very quick and smooth delivery for a first timer was only God.
I listened to midwife and followed every instruction as midwife Sally always said.
I also walked a lot duringpregnancy, rested a lot and God did the rest.

Please prayers really work.
I wish all expectant mums the very best.

As God did for me He will do for all of us.

MY BIRTH STORY – I NEVER THOUGHT I WILL HAVE A CESAREAN SECTION

My EDD was 10th and 12th August 2021. On the midnight of 9th August, I started feeling this on and off contractions which made me not sleep well that night.

Early Tuesday morning, which was the 10th of August, I woke up to visit the washroom and while I was cleaning up I saw blood from my vjay. I immediately went to take some warm shower, called my midwives and I was asked to come with my things right away. I got to the hospital, was checked and I was told labor has not set in yet.

Then I was placed on CTG scan for monitoring(three times).
The story changed when the doctor walked to my ward to inform me that the baby’s heartbeat for the first and second scan were not good, the 3rd scan was okay but not to his expectation, he continued to say that they don’t know when labor will set in and the consequences that might happen afterwards.

The only option to prevent any future occurrences is to perform an Emergency CS, hmm he gave me a little time to think about it and I have to call my hubby to inform him.

I was crying while talking to hubby but he encouraged me. I signed for the consent form. Was inserted with a catheter and sent to the theater. The necessary things were done and within 20-30mins at exactly 5:34pm, the pink baby was out with a weight of 3.3kg, i couldn’t hold my tears when I heard her crying and the midwife came to show her to me. I never thought of cs but God’s ways are always the best for us

We are doing very well by God’s grace. God bless the midwives in the class for all your teachings and advice which contributed to saving my life and my baby.

I wish all other pregnant mom’s a safe delivery and please dont waste time when the need arises. God bless u all

VERNIX CASEOSA- WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

You see that whitish substance on your baby’s #skin after it’s born? What is it and what’s its purpose ?
Some even think it’s dirt or as a result of eating ayilo/shile/Pica. But this is not the case. This is what you should know.
When your baby is born, he might be covered with a thick, white, cheese-like layer called vernix caseosa. The older the baby is the less you find it on their skin. It begins to form around 25 weeks and desolves into the amniotic fluid with time.

It’s benefits

In the womb, vernix helps protect your newborn’s delicate skin from the acidic quality of the amniotic fluid

It hydrates her skin, insulates her body, and maintains a proper and comfortable temperature in utero.

Vernix also does doubles as a lubricant, helping your baby slide out of the birth canal a bit easier.

It gives that new born smell your baby has, it helps mum and baby to bond

The World Health Organization advises delaying baby’s first bath for at least 6 hours, although 24 hours is ideal. This will help baby to adjust to the new environment and the vernix plays a role as well

Wash #vernix off right away if Baby has meconium staining, or if the mother has HIV or hepatitis.

Do not force to remove all at a time. With time all will be removed.

Thanks
