The rate at which women are aborting is becoming alarming.
Am writing because my inbox is suffering from women seeking ways to terminate their pregnancies
Some taking several tablets and medications
Some bleeding and keeping for days before reporting
My advice is that if you are pregnant and confused about what to do visit the family planning unit of any hospital for counseling and guidance
Don’t terminate pregnancy at home. It can lead to several complications
You can also use a method of contraception to avoid pregnancy so you don’t even worry about abortion or termination

🔴This is one of the questions most new couples who are expecting for the first time will ask.
🔴While some are scared it can cause miscarriage others believe it can result in developmental problems
🔴Some men will also completely avoid their wives with the intention of protecting the unborn baby and also to give their partners some space.
🔴Some women will also avoid having sex due to the hormonal and emotional changes that occur with pregnancy
🔴It is worth knowing that sex during pregnancy is #safe and does not pose a problem to the mum or unborn baby. Baby is enclosed in its sac/membranes and the opening of the uterus the cervix is also closed. It also has a mucus plan that prevents anything from entering the uterus.
🔴What is important is to have considerations. The pregnancy hormones and the early signs and symptoms can make a woman not desire to be intimate. It’s important for her partner to be considerate to support her through the process. There are times she will want to be intimate, there are times she will refrain. Make use of her happy days.
🔴Some few women who have had repeated abortions or threatened abortions may be advised by their doctors or midwives to avoid sex especially if an incompetent cervix is diagnosed.
🔴Couples can have sex throughout the pregnancy period. It is only to be #avoided when your doctor or midwife advises you #against it due to your health condition or as mentioned above.
🔴During the last trimester, couples can still have sex. What is needed is to assume a position that will not put pressure on the abdomen and also the woman will be comfortable. It should also be gentle.
🔴During the last trimester when labor is about to set in, it is believed to help trigger the onset of labor. The semen also contains prostaglandin which also helps to soften the cervix and help labor to start.
🔴Its also important to know that, you really do not need sex to maintain your pregnancy. Baby is safe and mum is also safe. Women should not be compelled to have sex if they don’t feel like or are currently not in any relationship whilst pregnant. Labor will still be initiated naturally. #midwifery
Yes its extremely important. Having a big baby have implications and can determine your mode of delivery.
A big baby can cause slow progress of labor, birth injury etc
If your baby’s weight is high and you are diagnosed of fetal macrosomia (Big baby) , your doctor will not allow you to have the baby by yourself. You may need a caesarian section.
They may also have to check if there is any condition behind it and provide the necessary care.
In the extreme end if baby’s weight is also extremely low, the doctor will decide which mode of delivery will help the baby to be born safely
In all, will say checking your baby’s weight before birth usually done through a scan is very important and can save you and your baby’s life!
I first of all want to thank God for his goodness and mercies. His name forever be praised. Amen. Then to our midwives God richly bless you.
My journey wasn’t very smooth, in the very first month I had a threatened miscarriage. It was scary as I had already miscarried my first pregnancy but God saw me through it. After this was a terrible morning sickness which lasted up to the 12 week. Then everything became normal.
In my 20th week I woke up one fine morning and started experiencing lower abdominal pains. The pain was becoming unbearable so I checked in at hospital and it was pre-term labor eii!, where from this one too? I was admitted and treated. Again everything became normal until my 35th week where I couldn’t feel my baby’s movement well, immediately I went to the hospital but didn’t meet my gynae. A different doctor attended to me and said everything was fine but from the look on his face all was not well. The following week I went to see my gynae, he did an ECG scan and the result was bad. Baby was in distress. The placenta was not in good condition to send oxygen and blood to the baby hence an emergency c/s had to be done to save baby.
I was devastated upon hearing this, I shed tears for a short while then I remembered all the teachings and testimonies I have heard on this class page. I gathered the courage and told the doctor I was ready.
I was immediately prepared for the theatre and in less than 5 minutes my miracle baby boy was out crying loud and looking healthy. Praise God.
A very big thank you to midwife Sally, midwife Eunice and Midwife Munira. Remember don’t leave your pregnancy to chance. Always cooperate with your doctor/midwife.

There are lots of stories that make them to fear the thought of giving birth vaginally.
Then the way out to them is to just have a caesarean section so they avoid all the issues that come with vaginal birth
The fact is just like vaginal birth comes with some risk, caesarean section also comes with its risk as well.
It is a procedure that was made to help mums who have issues or indications for it
Example
Baby is too big
There is fetal distress
Baby can’t pass through mums pelvis
Placenta previa
Previous c/s+ short interval
Prolonged labor
Bad obstetric history etc
It’s not the best to just ask for a caesarian section without any indication or proper reason
Speak to your midwife or doctor. Make a proper birth plan that suits your condition. It should not be based on your fear or what people have said about birth
You can approach birth more confidently by preparing for it.
After 9 months of pregnancy one important thing is to consider carefully the hospital you choose to deliver your baby.
You can do all that need to do but if the hospital you choose lacks the basic things they need to have, or lack the positive attitude, your outcome may not be what you expect.
Here are a few things to consider
How close it is to your home
The cost of their service
Good referral system in case of an emergency
Blood bank
Theatre for emergency procedures
Highly skilled doctors and midwives
Good environment
Nicu services in case baby is preterm
Availability of ambulance for emergency
Compassionate staffs
Even if your hospital lacks some of the things mentioned above, its important that they can easily refer you to the next facility with ease. Example if you are from a hospital without theatre, there must be an option to one easily if the need arises

Mums walks to me smiling. Midwife Sally I am pregnant for 43 weeks and I have reported since labor is still not setting in.
Sally.. Really, which midwife saw you and did not let them see you for admission and further management at 41 weeks.
She goes ahead and mention a midwifes name. I got confused but could not react.
Then I led her to the midwife. The midwife opens the folder and draws my attention to the date.
She was supposed to come on admission a week earlier. She refused and went home. Reported back and mentioning a colleagues name.
She didn’t know we document everything we tell them
The point is your placenta will stop working at a point if your baby is not born. It cant support your baby any more especially after 42 weeks.
So at 41 weeks if baby hasn’t arrived. You will be closely monitored and a possible intervention, either induction or caesarian section will be done to save the baby.
Women come with still births due to delay.
Know your expected date of delivery(40 weeks) and don’t let it pass for more than two weeks.
At 41 weeks… You need to ask your doctor what next?
Also cooperate with your health care provider. Give accurate information.
So just yesterday I wasn’t feeling too well. Vomited at dawn few times and also some stomach upsets. I knew something was wrong. My antenatal date was today 19th so I was calm. Woke up this morning still feeling sick.
Left for antenatal with hubby and mom very early in the morning. I did the normal vital checks and everything was fine. The midwife measured my tummy and then used the dopplar to check fetal heart rate. She realised it was too high (165–167)which isn’t normal. so I went to see my gynae, he did some scans and then realised the baby was in distress. He broke the news to us that he needs to do an emergency CS.. eeei. Just now nooor CS. well, I wasn’t scared cos I knew I’d be fine. Went to the theatre and within 10–15 minutes, everything was done. Baby girl was removed at 2:30pm (36 weeks) thereabout weighing 4kg. Healthy and chubby like mummy .
Grateful to God
Thanks to everyone on this page and also to midwife Sally. Her videos helped a lot too.
