1.As your uterus expands it causes the round ligament to stretch. It’s one cause of early abdominal pain.
2.Progesterone (a pregnancy hormone) causes relaxation of plain muscles in the colon, slowing down movement of digested food. Some food residues accumulate in part of the colon producing gas. Movement of this gas internally produces sharp pain.
3.This same colon relaxation causes constipation which intends produces pain.
Therefore if your cause is from the first one see your Doctor for the right analgesic.
The second cause;
i. Drink more water and it should be frequently too.
Ii. Eat small amount of food at a time and allow it to descend before you add up.
Iii. You can change position to reduce the pain. If it persists see M.O.
The third cause;
Take more fluids
Exercise
More fiber diet etc.
Midwife Sally NB Severe abdominal pains are not normal. There are also more severe conditions that could be happening…..placenta abruptio, eminent eclampsia etc. Call your doctor right away.
